Aqua NY Urges Reduction of Outdoor Water Use
Water company says lawn watering during heatwave puts demand on its system.
With the recent high temperatures affecting the region, Aqua New York is asking customers to reduce outdoor water use.
A Nassau County ordinance restricts outdoor water use to odd numbered days for odd numbered houses and even numbered days for even numbered houses. Water use is not permitted between 10 a.m. and 4 pm.
Aqua is requesting that customers reduce lawn watering, which puts a demand on its water system during the early morning hours.

“High water usage hits its peak during the summer months, especially when the temperatures reach 90 degrees or higher,” said Aqua New York President Matt Snyder. “Although Aqua has enough water to meet the need, we want to make our customers aware of the county’s ordinance to ensure an uninterrupted supply and I am asking that customers reduce outdoor sprinkling during the early morning hours.”
Aqua New York, a subsidiary of Aqua America, serves more than 152,000 residents in the New York City metropolitan area including the communities of Wantagh, Seaford, Merrick, Bellmore, Levittown, Massapequa Park, East Massapequa and parts of Glen Cove.
