Chanukah Message from the Farmingdale-Wantagh Jewish Center

Candle lighting starts Tuesday night.

Chanukah begins tonight at sundown.

A Shabbat candle lighting schedule, courtesy of the Farmingdale-Wantagh Jewish Center (FWJC), can be found here.

Rabbi Alan Lavin has also issued a Chanukah message, which can be viewed to the right. The center's latest newsletter can also be found in the gallery.

The Farmingdale-Wantagh Jewish Center is a consolidation of three former long standing conservative congregations. In 2007, the Farmingdale Jewish Center and Wantagh Jewish Center combined to become FWJC.

In 2010, the Israel Community Center in Levittown joined the congregational family making the FWJC one of the oldest continuous congregations on Long Island.

The FWJC traces its roots back to 1926 when the First Hebrew Congregation of Farmingdale was founded. The congregation's first building -  - was dedicated in 1948

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
