Companies, Buildings Tickled Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The most creative ways that businesses, cities and their residents celebrate breast cancer awareness month.

Think pink? It might be because it’s that time of year. Pink chocolate. Pink bagels. Pink hair weaves. Pink sheets. Pink stilettos. And, of course, a boatload of pink ribbons.

In Nassau County it'll be pink lights as the dome of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building will be illuminated in pink throughout the month.

“This event serves not only as a tribute to those who have been affected by breast cancer, but also as a reminder for each and every one of us to carry the message of the importance of early detection,” said County Executive Ed Mangano.

The Empire State Building will be aglow in pink as well Oct. 14 to 16 to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Many local businesses are also in on the fight for the cure.

At Costello's Ace Hardware stores across Long Island, customers will receive a free five-gallon pink bucket and get 20 percent off anything that fits inside when they make a $5 donation to the American Cancer Society.

Macy’s and Panera Bread (including Nassau locations) also got in on the pink-ribbon action. Macy’s has chocolates and stuffed animals, and Panera is baking pink ribbon bagels during October, both to benefit breast cancer awareness.
