Jones Beach Summer Season Wraps Up Today

Lifeguards to remain on duty until 6 p.m. Sunday.

Local swimmers looking for another dip in the ocean before fall only have a few more hours to do so with lifeguards on duty.

After the Jones Beach summer season wraps up Sunday Sept. 19 there will not be any more lifeguards on duty at the state park until Memorial Day. Most Long Island beaches stop patrolling lifeguards after Labor Day but Jones Beach continues to have staffing in place because of the desire many have to dip into the ocean through mid September when the water is warmer, according to New York State Parks spokesman George Gorman.

Jones Beach lifeguards will remain on duty until 6 p.m. Sunday. The weather forecast for Sunday at Jones Beach is sunny with a high temperature of 79.
