Nov. 9: 14th District Recount, Soccer Championship Matches, School Board Meeting

Your daily guide to what's happening in Wantagh, Levittown and Seaford.

1. The biggest story out of election night comes from the 14th District of the Nassau County Legislature, where incumbent Republican Joseph Belisi leads Democratic challenger Eva Pearson by 51 votes. A recount is pending, which Patch was first to report. You can read the full story here.

2. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Communications Commission will conduct the first national test of the Nationwide Emergency Alert System on all radio and TV stations today. The test will begin at 2 p.m. and will last approximately three minutes. For more information click here.

3. A recent conversation with a spokesperson for the New York State Office of Children and Family Services revealed that the Shriver Day Care center will not challenge its suspension and will not re-open. The complete story is here.

4. Three Levittown high school soccer teams will have a chance to capture Nassau County titles on Wednesday. The MacArthur girls soccer team will face Calhoun in the Nassau County Class AA title match at 4 p.m. at Michael J. Tully Park in New Hyde Park. The Division girls will follow by facing South Side at Tully Park in the Class A Championship at 6:30 p.m. The Island Trees boys soccer team takes on Jericho in the Class A county finals at Hofstra University at 5 p.m.

5. The Levittown Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at the Levittown Memorial Education Center at 7:30 p.m., while the Island Trees School Board will hold a work session meeting this evening at 7 p.m. in Karopczyc School on 72 Farmedge Rd.
