PHOTOS: Irene Aftermath in Wantagh and Seaford

Storm causes flooding and downed trees in certain areas.

Hurricane-turned Tropical Storm Irene struck Long Island early Sunday morning causing much damage to both Wantagh and Seaford.

The storm led to many downed trees and flooded streets south of Merrick Road. There was extensive tree damage in Seaford at the corner of Merrick Road and Washington Avenue as well as in North Wantagh on Seamans Neck Road, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano stated in an early Sunday afternoon press briefing. The southbound Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway at exit 2 (Sunrise Highway) was closed Sunday morning due to flood conditions on the roadway.

The heavy wind gusts from Irene which measured 64 miles per hour at , according to weather reports, also led to wide-scale in Wantagh and Seaford.
