Section of Wantagh Highway to be Shut Down Monday

Northbound Wantagh State Parkway between Ocean Parkway and Merrick Road to be closed for inspections on drawbridge.

All lanes in the northbound Wantagh State Parkway from Ocean Parkway to Merrick Road will be closed to motorists on Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., the State of New York Department of Transportation (DOT) announced Friday.

DOT officials Monday’s highway closure “is needed to inspect critical locking devices” on the Wantagh State Parkway draw bridge that runs over Sloop Creek to “assure its safe operation for motorists and vessels.” The Wantagh Parkway multi-use path will also be closed to users during Monday’s drawbridge inspection.

Northbound Wantagh State Parkway motorists will be detoured to the northbound Meadowbrook State Parkway, according to transportation officials.
