Update: More Power Outages Reported in Wantagh and Seaford from Irene

LIPA reporting many outages in area as a result of heavy storm that hit Long Island region.

Thousands of Seaford and Wantagh residents are without power Sunday due to the tropical storm force winds that struck Long Island as Hurricane Irene barreled up the east coast early in the morning.  

As of 11:18 a.m., Wantagh had 6,883 power outages, up from 3,604 reported at 8:03 a.m., according to the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) Storm Center. North Wantagh has also been hard hit with 5,038 LIPA customers without power as of 11:18 a..m., up from 2,799 reported just after 8 a.m. by the utility.

Seaford has not been as hard hit by Irene with 376 power outages reported in the community by LIPA as of 11:18 a.m., up from 238 three hours prior.

Overall, more than 452,000 LIPA customers were without power on Long Island late Sunday morning, including 177, 159 in Nassau County. The Town of Hempstead has been hit with 86, 413 power outages as of 11:18 a.m.

if you don't have electric, make sure outage is called into LIPA: 1-800-490-0075 .. if you don't call, they don't know.
