Thursday morning's edition of Newsday included a note stating that the New York State Public Service Commission is seeking public comments on a petition from American Water Works Company to acquire Aqua New York Inc. As most of you know, the Water Authority of Southeastern Nassau County is currently studying the costs and benefits of taking over Aqua.
As I am in favor of a public takeover of Aqua, I believe that an interim acquisition by American Water Works will only serve to increase the cost of a public takeover. I urge all those in favor of a public takeover to express their view to the NYSPSC that it should deny American’s interim acquisition pending the outcome of the Water Authority’s study.
