Searching for Consistency and Rationality

My name is Eric Jurist and like the Peter Finch character in the movie “Network”, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore”.

I am a semiretired commercial banker and lawyer with a keen interest in politics, finance and national and international current events. More importantly however I am deeply concerned about the future of our country and as a by-product, the future of my grandchildren.

Our political system is dysfunctional and our politicians duplicitous. Decisions get made for short-term business or political reasons without regard to the long-term welfare of a large portion of the populace.  On the other hand, NIMBYism in local communities often blocks actions needed for growth and progress. This isn’t 1956 and as Tom Friedman points out “The World is Flat”.

I intend for this blog to call out what I see as screwed up policies, deceitful politicians and closed mindedness among our citizens. I hope what I write will be controversial and will stimulate some serious discourse within the community.
