Did you get your local and county real estate tax bill today? I did and I am not a happy camper.
I have never in 37 years filed a tax grievance but now I just may. Last week I read that a defeated Nassau County legislator had been appointed as a trustee of Nassau County Medical Center. Not only is the appointee unqualified for the position (per Newsday) but actually received a raise of 15 percent (to $300,000) over the remuneration paid to the prior qualified trustee.
All this took place against the backdrop of the layoff of 265 county workers for budgetary reasons and the ongoing oversight of the county’s finances by a state authority.
