Wantagh-Seaford Election

Tuesday is Election Day in New York state. Voters will be choosing office-holders in Nassau County and the Town of Hempstead. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the state. Here's a look at the races and candidates on the ballot in the Wantagh-Seaford area.

County Offices

Voters will decide if they want to re-elect Republican County Executive Ed Mangano or return Democratic former County Executive Thomas Suozzi to office.  Republican Maureen O'Connell seeks re-election as Nassau County Clerk and will be opposed by Democrat Laura Gillen. Comptroller George Maragos seeks another term in a race against Democrat Howard Weitzman.  Finally, Demorcratic District Attorney Kathleen Rice squares off against Republican Howard Sturim.

County Legislator

Democrat Dave Denenberg of Merrick seeks an eighth term serving District 19. Dennenberg is the ranking member of the Finance and Public Works committees. He's a lawyer who practices in Garden City and New York City and has a degree in Chemichal engineering.

Republican Steven Rhoads is a lawyer and fire captain in Wantagh who's worked for the Nassau County Attorney's office. 

Town Offices

Town Supervisor: 
Incumbent Republican Kate Murray who was first elected in 2003 will seek a 6th term. She is a former Town Clerk and served in the State Assembly.  Murray was the first woman elected Town Supervisor. Her Democratic opponent Felix Procacci of Franklin Square is a computer programmer and community activist.

Town Clerk:  Republican Nasrin Ahmad was appointed  as Town Clerk in September following the vacancy left by Mark Bonilla, who was found guilty of official misconduct and removed from office. She has been with the Clerk's office since 1998. Her Democratic Opponent Jasmine Garcia-Vieux  is a lawyer who specializes in insurance fraud.

Town Council: Incumbent Republican Gary Hudes of Levittown has erved as Hempstead Town Councilman for the Sixth Council District since 2000.  He is the owner of a jewelry business and served as president of the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce. His Democratic opponent, Diane Madden is an animal welfare and taxpayer advocate who's been critical of practices at the Town animal Shelter.
