Through My Father's Eyes

Our first display features the work of a very impressive photographer, Phil Stanziola. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. Stanziola went to work as a copy boy for the World Telegram and Sun in 1942. In 1943, he was drafted into the Army Air Corp, where he fought in the Pacific during World War II. Returning from the War in 1945, he went back to work at the newspaper where he eventually became a photographer. From that time until the paper folded in 1965, he photographed the famous, the infamous and witnessed many historical events. After the demise of the World Journal Tribune, he went to work for the Daily News until he retired in 1991. Mr. Stanziola's photographs are part of a historic collection that are displayed at the Library of Congress. Many of the photos will capture your imagination and curiosity and are also a part of a private collection. To take a look at some of these photos, they are located outside the Director's Office. Registration begins Tuesday, November 5th at the Reference Desk.
