VIDEO: Beach Restoration Along Ocean Parkway Coming Along

Video shows some of the beaches and dunes coming back along barrier beaches.

The South Shore Beaches were battered by Hurricane Sandy's fierce winds and powerful flood surge, but somethings appear to be getting better to the south.

Patch reader Tony Werner sent us in this video of the beaches along the Ocean Parkway as he drives eastbound. Construction equipment is everywhere, moving sands back towards the parkway to rebuild the huge dunes that once protected the area from storm surges.

Town officials told Patch earlier this year they planned to have the beaches restored by Memorial Day, but sand resources were running out.

Thank you for submitting the video to our Pics & Clips, Tony!

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
