Baby Delivered En Route to Hospital

Emergency responders help mother deliver baby on Sunrise Highway.

15 minutes was just too long a wait for one little boy, who was brought into the world on Sunrise Highway a few miles from the hospital Monday morning.

Nassau County Police said a 35-year-old woman was on her way to the hospital when she was struck with labor pains. Her driver pulled over on Sunrise Highway at Old Mill Road in Wantagh and immediately called 911, cops said.

Ambulance Medical Technicians Matthew Field and John Piscopo rushed to the scene and helped deliver the “healthy baby boy” at 9:41 a.m., police reported.
