Highlights from NY Hammerheads vs NY Hooligans

The Hooligans and the Hammerheads started off their Yard campaigns with a two game set. Which team emerged victorious?

The NY Hammerheads found themselves with the unenviable task of squaring off against the three top teams in the region, the Hooligans, the Enemy and the Throwbacks, last Sunday on Opening Day.

The result was a five game losing streak to open the season, not exactly the way any club wants to start on the road towards Las Vegas.

“We had some tough matchups in week one against the best teams in the league,” Phil Zoppi, of the Hammerheads, said. “I think we are going to be a much more competitive team in Week Two.”

Meanwhile, the Hooligans went 4-1 to start the season, including a two game sweep of the Hammerheads.  Their lone loss came against the Throwbacks, when Scott Alford hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Throwbacks a 4-3 victory. Despite the disappointing end to the day, the Hooligans remained upbeat.

“We had a good day, Anthony Circicillo got us started with his homer in Game One against the Hammerheads,” Anthony Didio said. “Then Gary DeVito carried us in the middle games while Anthony Pucci and I finished off the day with our homers.”
