Miss Wantagh 2013 Contestants Sought

Annual pageant fast approaching.

The 2013 Miss Wantagh Pageant is fast approaching and organizers are seeking local teens to take part in the longtime Fourth of July tradition first held in 1956.

Miss Wantagh Pageant coordinator Ella Stevens said applications for those seeking the title of Miss Wantagh are available online at http://www.wantagh.li/misswantagh/. Applications are also available at the Wantagh High School Main office and can be requested by contacting Stevens at 409-1645. The application deadline is May 31.

After a ceremony for the Miss Wantagh Pageant is held in late June, the winner will be announced during a ceremonial crowning in front of Wantagh Elementary School immediately after the traditional Wantagh Fourth of July parade.

“Each year we are very fortunate to have young women of the town proudly step up to represent our community, each in their own special way,” Stevens said. “As most people already know, the Miss Wantagh Pageant is not about beauty - at least not from the outside. Miss Wantagh is about a teen representative who wants to do what she can to help make Wantagh the best town in Nassau County.”

In last year’s Miss Wantagh Pageant, Hailey Orgass was crowned the winner. The Wantagh High School student spearheaded an anti-bullying campaign for her community project last fall.

In addition to cash prizes awarded to Miss Wantagh and first and second runner-up, all the semifinalists will receive gifts from local merchants in appreciation of their interest and enthusiasm for the community.

"If you are a Wantagh resident, a high school freshman, sophomore, junior or senior committed to the betterment of the Wantagh community, and want to go the extra mile to be involved in community sponsored events by many organizations, meet elected officials from all government levels and be the voice of your peers, I urge you to fill out an application," Stevens stated.
