Report: Andrea Dumped 5.48 inches of Rain on Wantagh Friday

Area received one of the higher rain totals on Long Island during Friday's storm.

Much of Wantagh was under water Friday when the remnants of Tropical Storm Area dumped heavy rain on Long Island.

According to the National Weather Service, Wantagh received 5.48 inches of rainfall Friday, Newsday reported. The only Long Island communities with higher reported rain totals Friday included Centereach (5.65), Lido Beach (5.6) and Hicksville (5.52). No rain totals were provided for Seaford in the report. 

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for Long Island late Friday afternoon that was in effect until 9:15 p.m. Saturday's forecast for the Wantagh-Seaford area calls for isolated showers between 1-3 p.m. and thunderstorms later in the afternoon. Saturday night is expected to be mostly cloudy with sunny skies forecasted for Sunday and a high temperature near 77 degrees.
