Wantagh-Seaford Sandy Relief Group Seeks More Volunteers

Friends of Wantagh-Seaford is helping local victims from superstorm move back into their homes.

A new organization aimed at helping Wantagh and Seaford residents still digging out from damages caused by Hurricane Sandy last fall is looking for more volunteers.

Friends of Wantagh-Seaford was formed in February and now has around 10 volunteers who are helping families who suffered flooding from the Oct. 29 superstorm south of Merrick Road get back into their homes. The group is part of the Friends of Long Island network, which includes similar organizational efforts in several communities along Long Island’s South Shore including Massapequa, Long Beach, Freeport, Lindenhurst and Mastic Beach.

“I saw the devastation and I wanted to help in any way I could,” said Chris Dolley, one of the leaders for Friends of Wantagh-Seaford. “We’re trying to help people who still need help.”

Dolley, a 2011 Wantagh High School graduate and a Wantagh Fire Department volunteer, said the group is offering 100 percent removal of any damaged item in flooded homes. He is also leading an effort in compiling a list of reputable contractors to do rehabilitation work in homes. The group is also working closely on projects with the Friends of Massapequa.

Anyone interested in joining the efforts of Wantagh-Seaford is urged to contact Dolley at chrisdolley68@gmail.com. For further information, log onto the Friends of Wantagh-Seaford Facebook page.
