Helga Dagmara Hartman Dies at 94

Former Wantagh resident worked in Cedarhurst from 1970s to 80s.

Helga Dagmara Hartman, a one-time Wantagh resident who worked at a Cedarhurst bank in the 1970s, died on Monday in Delmar, NY, after a short illness. She was 94.

Born in Latvia, Hartman had to flee the country in 1944 from the invading Russian army, according to an obituary on Legacy.com. She and her family lived in various displaced persons camps in Germany until they immigrated to New York City in 1947.

She lived in various boroughs, until moving to Wantagh in 1976. Hartman moved to Albany in 1987.

Hartman worked in several positions, eventually finding employment as a secretary and banker. In the 1970s, she worked at Century Federal Savings & Loan Association in Cedarhurst. She retired in 1982.

She is survived by her daughters, Laima Celmins and Mara Puspurs; her grandson, Erik Kusko; and great-granddaughters, Rebecca and Nicole Kusko.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 11, at 1 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home.
