Seaford Football Coaching Legend Dies

Irwin "Buster" Wolosky led Vikings to their first championship on gridiron.

Irwin “Buster” Wolosky, who coached the Seaford High School football program to its first championship, died on Monday. He was 76.

Wolosky was Seaford’s football coach for more than three decades along with serving as a physical education teacher at the high school and Seaford Manor School before retiring in 1996. The Wantagh resident led the Vikings to their first conference championship in 1976 and followed up with county title in 1980.

Seaford Superintendent of Schools Brian Conboy played for Coach Wolosky when he was a student at Seaford High School in the late 70s.

“Everyone who played for him will remember his love for his family and his passion for the game of football,” Conboy said. “He taught us a good deal about life while inspiring us with the Xs and Os. He led us with great energy, passion and great humor and took tremendous pride in his players and their accomplishments later in life.”

Wolosky is survived by his wife Jeanne, son Brian and daughter Rissa. A funeral service is scheduled at Gutterman's Memorial Chapel in Woodbury on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

“Coach Wolosky was still a regular and valued presence at Seaford events,” said Conboy of his continued involvement in the community even after retirement. “Now that the final whistle in his life has sounded he will be sorely missed by all who knew him, played for him and loved him."
