Four Nominees For Wantagh-Seaford Patch's Person Of The Year [POLL]

Vote for one of these four nominees this week.

With so many people contributing to making the local area a desirable place to live, Wantagh-Seaford Patch last week for its first Person of the Year contest.

A diverse mix of nominations was made by you the readers. Below is a list of the four most thoughtful nominations and some of what was written by readers on why their nominees deserve to be Wantagh-Seaford Patch’s Person of the Year for 2011.

After viewing the nominations, cast your vote in the poll below for who you feel most deserves the Wantagh-Seaford Patch Person of the Year honor.  Comments are also encouraged.

The winner will be announced on Friday.

  • : “In the midst of Sandy's own grief she also managed to make something positive come out of her daughters tragic death by successfully working at having laws passed that would make our local streets safer for our children, our community, our future."
  • : “The John Theissen Children's Foundation continues to raise money, collect toys and school supplies in a tough economy. He is a true hero in Wantagh and all over Long Island!”
  • : “I would like to nominate two people who have given up countless hours and days to get our middle school sports back in Seaford. Due to their efforts our community raised over [$100,000] for our kids and they are still going!”
  • : “Over the course of literally decades, until his unfortunate early death this past February, there is no better choice for a person who made a real difference in the quality of life in Seaford as well as the entire East Bay portion of the Great South Bay, than Bill Powell.”

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
