Stocks at All-Time High

But, not to worry, the stock market will continue to break all time highs!

The Dow Jones average closed on Friday March 1 at 14,089.66, within a stone’s throw of the all-time peak of 14,164.53. Financial analysts expected the Dow to break the all-time record high within a week. Sounds great; doesn’t it?

Well, at the same time our representatives in Washington let the country run into a wall.  $85 billion in federal budget cuts, known as “the sequester,” were to start on March 1. The “sequester,” as it is called, is the result of the political deadlock in Washington blocking a compromise deficit-reduction program.

Thousands of federal employees are to be temporarily laid-off in April because there is no money in our government to pay its employees. Cuts in the defense spending will likely trigger layoffs in the private sector and force the laid-off employees onto the unemployment rolls where they will be paid by the government anyway.  If our government was subject to the same rules as a corporation it would be bankrupt.

Oh, remember our already very high unemployment rate? It hasn’t
changed, at all…millions of people, like you and me, can’t find a job or make a
living and millions of other people have “given up” (according to government
statistics) or accepted a part-time job just to slow the financial bleeding. The number of people on public assistance and food stamps, now given the cute nickname “SNAP,” is at an all time high as well. But, not to worry,
the stock market will continue to break all time highs!

It’s a little bit frightening if you think about it. The US government
was the “be all and end all” in the financial community. Other nations, as well, based their financial well-being on the strength of the US dollar and now our government can’t even pay the people that it employs. But, not to worry, the stock market will continue to break all time highs!

In my humble opinion, someone, somewhere had better wake-up and smell the coffee while we still have a few beans. Oh, that right, we just re-elected the same president who basically did nothing for the last four years! One can always count on the intelligence of the American public; that’s the same people who spend their
time making the Kardashians into multi-millionaires for doing little more than
being an example of a national disgrace. But, not to worry, the stock market
will continue to break all time highs!
