Brooklyn Teen Charged With Operating Stolen Car in Wantagh

Eighteen year old male causes accident during police pursuit.

A Brooklyn teen was arrested by New York State Police in Wantagh Wednesday and charged with operating a stolen vehicle after he tried escaping a state trooper on the Southern State Parkway.

Police said a New York State trooper attempted to stop a Nissan Maxima for an unsafe lane change on the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway near exit 27(Wantagh Pkwy).  The Nissan failed to stop for the trooper, which led to him pursuing the vehicle. The trooper was then informed that the Nissan Maxima was stolen out of New York City.

The driver of the Nissan Maxima, Lamar Campbell, 18, of Brooklyn proceeded to strike a vehicle after exiting the Wantagh Parkway. The two passengers in the Nissan Maxima were taken into police custody without incident.

Campbell was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, reckless endangerment, third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle and several traffic violations. Campbell will answer the charges in Nassau County First District Court in Hempstead. Charges on the two passengers are pending investigation.
