Car Crashes Into Tree on Southern State Parkway

Female driver transported to Nassau University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after accident near Wantagh Avenue exit.

A 22-year old woman is in critical condition following a crash on the eastbound Southern State Parkway in Wantagh early Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

A state trooper at the crash scene said the female driver lost control of her vehicle around exit 28 (Wantagh Avenue) and plowed into a tree sideways. The woman was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow with what the state trooper described as "life-threatening" injuries.

The accident on the Southern State Parkway forced the temporary closure of the eastbound lanes around exit 28 while police conducted an investigation.
