Child Injured in Wantagh Car Accident

Child was being taken out of a Honda CR-V on Bayiew Avenue when it was struck by Ford Escape.

A child being taken out of a Honda CR-V on Bayiew Avenue in Wantagh was injured when the vehicle was struck by a Ford Escape just before 6 p.m. Thursday.

A police officer that responded to the accident scene on the Wantagh side street located just off Merrick Road said the child appeared to have been hit by a door from the impact of the accident.

The police officer said the child, whose age and sex were not released, was transported to a local hospital and injuries did not appear to be too serious.

No other injuries were reported from the accident, which caused Bayview Avenue to be closed in both directions between Bellport Avenue and St. Regis Street.

Police are continuing to their investigation into what caused the Ford Escape to strike the parked Honda.
