Cops: Jones Beach Lifeguards Busted for Drug Possession

All three lifeguards have been instructed not to return to work, a parks spokesman said.

Three lifeguards were arrested for drug possession Tuesday at Jones Beach State Park, according to New York State Parks Police.

According to cops, James Liegey, 41, of Queens, Michael Eberhardt, 31, of Long Beach, and Blaze C. Zellman, 24, of Carle Place, were busted while they were seated in a parked vehicle at the park. 

Liegey, Eberhardt and Zellman were charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. In addition, Liegey was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

All defendants were released on appearance tickets to appear at the First District Court in Hempstead.

"All three lifeguards have been instructed not to return to work pending the outcome of an internal investigation," Parks Department Spokesman Randy Simons told Newsday.

The investigation is underway and the State Park Police are requesting that anyone with information about this case call 631-321-3700.  All calls will be kept confidential.
