Cops: Wantagh Man Drove After Using Drugs, Caused Crash

A Wantagh man was arrested Monday morning after he was allegedly driving impaired before being involved in a two-car crash.

According to New York State Police, at 8:39 a.m. Monday, Farmingdale State Troopers were called to a crash on the westbound Southern State Parkway near Route 107. 

Cops said the operator of a Ford rear ended an Acura, and then the Ford drove onto the shoulder and struck a utility pole. Both drivers were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Bethpage with minor injuries, police said.

The driver of the Ford, Joseph Desantis, 51, was evaluated for drug use and was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs. Desantis was charged with felony DWI Drugs (at least one DWI conviction in the past 10 years), felony aggravated unlicensed operation and traffic violations. He's scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Dec. 16.
