Crime Report: Kidnapping Phone Scam, Stolen Holiday Decorations

Recent incident reports in Wantagh and Seaford from the Seventh Precinct.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's Seventh Precinct incident reports. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate a conviction.

  • On Dec. 1, John Tsoilis, 29, of Seaford was arrested at the Nassau County Seventh Precinct headquarters in Seaford and charged with grand larceny. 
  • A vehicle parked at Hemingway's Bar & Grill on 1885 Wantagh Ave. in Wantagh was damaged by unknown suspect(s) on Dec. 4. 
  • A PVC fence was reported damaged on Ray Street in Seaford on Dec. 4. 
  • The window of a vehicle parked on Twisting Lane in Wantagh was reported smashed on Dec. 5. 
  • A home on Adams Place in Wantagh was entered into on Dec. 5 with cash, jewelry and other miscellaneous items stolen. There are no signs of forced entry.
  • A catalytic converter was reported removed from a vehicle parked at the Wantagh Long Island Rail Road Station on Dec. 5. 
  • A vehicle was reported broken with tools removed on Riverside Drive in Wantagh on Dec. 7. 
  • A kidnapping phone scam was reported by a Wantagh resident on Dec. 8. Police said the scam involved an unknown male caller contacting the house in Wantagh and stating that a family member was kidnapped, held hostage or involved in an auto accident. The caller then proceeded to say that money needed to be sent through Western Union to save or help the family member. The caller threatened serious harm, police said. 
  • On Dec. 9, Anthony Gentile, 57, of Freeport was arrested at the corner of Narragansett Avenue and Merrick Road in Seaford and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle as well as two vehicle and traffic law violations. 
  • Two males were seen breaking the back of a vehicle on Demott Avenue in Wantagh on Dec. 8 and removing tools. 
  • An iPhone was reported stolen from a locker at United Skates of America on 1276 Hicksville Rd. in Seaford on Dec. 8 . 
  • A man on Locust Avenue in Wantagh reported on Dec. 10 that holiday decorations were stolen from his front lawn.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
