Crimes Nearby: Levittown Store Thefts, School Property Damage Arrests

Recent criminal activity reported in southeast Nassau County communities.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

Bellmore

  • Two Bellmore men were arrested on Jan. 17 after Nassau County Police observed them allegedly conducting a drug sale in a grocery store parking lot. Click here for more on that story.
  • On Jan. 15, a suspicious vehicle was spotted outside of Dinkelmeyer Elementary School around dismissal time. For more on this, including a description of the driver and the vehicle, click here.
  • Sometime between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 11, the side door and ignition system of a vehicle were damaged while the automobile was parked at the Bellmore LIRR station.
  • Also on Jan. 11 at the Bellmore LIRR station, between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., another vehicle's side door was damaged while it was parked in the commuter lot.
  • Sometime between midnight on Jan. 12 and 11 a.m. on Jan. 13, a vehicle that was parked on Soifer Avenue in North Bellmore was keyed.
  • On Jan. 12, at 1:40 p.m., Debra Omasta, 43 of Bellmore, was arrested at Walmart in the Sunrise Mall and charged with Petit Larceny.
  • Sometime between 8 p.m. on Jan. 11 and 6 a.m. on Jan. 12, an unknown suspect threw eggs at the complainant's vehicle. When the complainant was washing the vehicle, he discovered they caused damage to the paint.

  • An inmate at the Nassau County Correctional Facility was allegedly found in possession of Oxycodone pills after a routine search of his cell on Jan. 16. Click here for more on the story.

Levittown

  • On Jan. 2, a total of 26 toner cartridges were stolen from Office Max on Hempstead Turnpike. 
  • On Jan. 7, a Coach pocketbook, cash and a cell phone were stolen from Stop & Shop on Hempstead Turnpike.
  • On Jan. 8, a car was keyed on Skylark Lane.  

Massapequa

  • A burglar threw a large rock through the window of the Carmans Road Radio Shack on Jan. 12, police said. For more on story, click here.
  • On Jan. 6 a GPS was stolen from a vehicle on Willow Drive, police said.

Merrick

  • A man was questioned by police after he was spotted loitering at Birch School in Merrick. He was advised to stay off the school's grounds or he'd be arrested. For more, click here.
  • Merrick School District Superintendent Dr. Dominick Palma told Patch that two arrests have been made after there were multiple instances of property damage at Chatterton Elementary School. Click here for the story.
  • Sometime between 10 p.m. on Jan. 11 and 9 a.m. on Jan. 12, a vehicle parked on Park Avenue in North Merrick sustained deep scratches, and an unknown substance was also found on the vehicle.
  • On Jan. 11, between 4:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., a home on Colonial Avenue was broken into via the rear door and jewelry, as well as an unknown amount of cash, was stolen.

Seaford

  • A bomb threat note was found in a bathroom at Seaford Middle School on Jan. 16 prompting a police investigation. For more on story, click here.
  • A 400-pound memorial rock was reported turned over outside the Seaford Public Library sometime between Jan. 11-14.
  • On Jan. 8, John Druckman of Seaford was arrested at his residence and charged with third-degree criminal mischief. Police said the arrest came after a man on South Street in Seaford said Druckman had shoved rocks and rags into his boiler air intake causing damage to the motor. 
  • On Jan. 8, Thomas Wengler, 53, of Seaford was arrested on S Seamans Neck Road and charged with driving while intoxicated as well as one vehicle and traffic law violation.
  • A duffel bag and contents from a vehicle parked at Pathmark on 4055 Merrick Road in Seaford were reported stolen on Jan. 7. 
  • Two PVC fences on Neptune Avenue in Seaford were reported damaged between Jan. 12-13. 
  • A man on Walsall Street in Seaford reported on Jan. 14 that three of his tires had been slashed.

Wantagh

  • Three Wantagh teens were charged in connection with 19 stolen bongs from the former Twisted Glass store on Wantagh Avenue. For more on story, click here.
  • A vehicle parked on Manchester Road in Wantagh was reported keyed sometime between Jan. 11-12.
  • The driver side mirror was reported broken of a vehicle parked in a driveway on Wantagh Avenue between Jan. 12-13.
