Crimes Nearby Part I: Attempted Purse Snatching, Students Approached

Recent criminal activity reported in Bellmore, Merrick and East Meadow.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

Bellmore 

  • Nassau County Police released a sketch on April 29 of a “suspicious person” that’s sought in connection to the string of stranger incidents throughout the Bellmore-Merrick area in April. Click here to take a look.
  • An increased police presence was reported at Saw Mill Road Elementary School on the morning of April 30 after a teacher's aide saw someone resembling the police sketch that cops released on Monday. Click this link for more.
  • A North Bellmore man was arrested on May 3 at the intersection of Bellmore Road and Dorris Avenue after police found drugs and an unconscious woman in his vehicle. For more details, click here
  • A man attempted a purse snatching at Stop & Shop on Jerusalem Avenue before being caught and arrested. For more details, click here
East Meadow
  • On April 30, two students were approached by a man as they were walking on Bellmore Road and Granz Court. For more details, click here.
Merrick  
  • Sometime between 11:30 p.m. on April 22 and 9:30 a.m. on April 23, unknown suspects shattered the rear window of a vehicle parked on Judith Drive. No loss was reported.
  • A Merrick woman was arrested on April 27 after she was allegedly driving drunk on the Meadowbrook Parkway with her kids in the vehicle. For more details click here.
  • One person was transported to a nearby hospital on April 27 after a fight broke out between a number of youths near the intersection of Merrick Avenue and Sunrise Highway. For more on this, click here
