Crimes Nearby Part I: Mepham HS Student Approached by Stranger, Stolen Power Washer

Recent criminal activity reported in Bellmore, Merrick and East Meadow.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

Bellmore

  • On May 17 at 4 a.m., a man noticed that an unknown suspect was trying to steal his bike rack off of his car, which was parked on South St. Marks Avenue in Bellmore, and the suspect was unsuccessful.
  • A Mepham High School student was approached by a stranger while walking home from school on May 20, according to an email to parents from Principal Michael Harrington. Click here for more.
East Meadow
  • Sometime between May 9 and May 17, a basement window screen of a house  located on Winter Place was broken.
  • The front window and a lawn ornament on a house on Front Street was reported broken on May 13.
  • On May, 15 a the window of a vehicle parked on East Meadow Avenue was broken.
  • The Nassau County Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying an unknown suspect who threw a rock through the window of Active Auto Glass, located at 2507 North Jerusalem Road last month.
Merrick 
  • Sometime between 12:20 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. on May 15, three tires and rims were stolen from a Hondra Accord that was parked on Cynthia Lane in Merrick.
  • A Merrick woman was charged on May 17 with grand larceny for allegedly stealing more than $90,000 from the Roosevelt-based waterproofing company where she worked as comptroller. Click this link for more.
  • Sometime between 9 p.m. on May 16 and 1 p.m. on May 17, a power washer was stolen from a shed on Frederick Avenue.
  • On May 16, at 9:26 a.m., a man reported that his chainsaw on Shore Drive was missing.
