Crimes Nearby Part II: Man Stabbed With Scissors, Couple Charged with Fraud

Recent criminal activity reported for Bellmore, Merrick and East Meadow.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

Bellmore

  • A man reported on May 21 that the side passenger window of his vehicle parked on Corner Lane was shattered.
  • On May 26, Jean Berquin, 52, of Freeport was arrested on Sunrise Highway in Bellmore and charged with driving while intoxicated as well as one vehicle and traffic law violation.
  • On May 27, Anthony Scirica, 41, of Kernersville, N.C. was arrested near the corner of Merrick Road and Bedford Avenue and charged with driving while intoxicated.
East Meadow
  • An East Meadow woman was arrested on May 28 after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend with a pair of scissors in Mineola, police said. For more details, click here.
  • An East Meadow man was one of 12 people charged on May 30 with public assistance fraud, according to the district attorney's office, For more information, click here.
Merrick
  • On May 21, a vehicle parked on Wesley Avenue in North Merrick had its window broken.
  • On May 26, George Barrera, 37, of Bellmore was arrested near the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Merrick Avenue and charged with driving while intoxicated as well as three vehicle and traffic law violations.
  • A Merrick couple was charged on May 30 with public assistance fraud, according to the district attorney's office. For more information, click here.
