DWI Accident Sends Driver into Seaford Creek

Richie Walker of Wantagh charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his Jeep Grand Cherokee into a creek off the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway Monday night.

A Wantagh man crashed his vehicle into a Seaford creek Monday night and after being treated for injuries at a local hospital was charged by police for driving while intoxicated (DWI).

A Nassau County Police Department spokeswoman said Richie Walker, 42, of Wantagh, drove his maroon 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee into a creek located just off the southbound Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway near a ramp for the Merrick Road exit.

Following the accident at around 7:30 p.m. Monday, the responded to rescue the driver after he had crashed around 35 feet into the creek off the highway, according to fire officials. The vehicle was partially submerged in the creek as rescuers worked to stabilize the man and bring him up an embankment to an awaiting Seaford Fire Department ambulance.

Walker was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for treatment and then released into police custody and charged with DWI. He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
