Firefighters Extinguish Wantagh HS Classroom Fire

Small electrical fire breaks out in first floor classroom late Friday afternoon.

A small electrical fire broke out in a classroom at late Friday afternoon but was quickly extinguished by firefighters with no injuries occurring.

William Allen, chief of the , said the fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. and was contained to a first floor classroom. There were students in the building for after school activities when the fire broke out but none were in any danger from the incident, Allen said.

Allen said the exact cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated. He said it may have been related to a that occurred in the nearby North Bellmore-East Meadow area at the Long Island Power Authority substation on the intersection of Bellmore Road and North Jerusalem Road Friday around the same time.
