Garbage Truck Fire Erupts in Seaford

Friday morning vehicle fire caused some of Seamans Neck Road to be closed down for cleanup.

A garbage truck fire in Seaford shut down traffic for some of Seamans Neck Road Friday morning.

At around 9:25 a.m. a garbage truck from a local trash removal company called the Winter Brothers was driving along Seamans Neck Road across from when compressed cardboard boxes in the vehicle caught fire, according to a police officer that responded to the scene to close off traffic. It is still unknown what caused the fire to erupt, the police officer stated.

The responded and extinguished the fire in less than 10 minutes, the police officer said. Nobody inside Seaford High School across from where the accident occurred was impacted.

Seaford firefighters and police were cleaning up the debris on Seamans Neck Road left over from the fire this morning and much of the road was expected to be closed until around Noon. Exit 3 of the northbound Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway was also closed due to the garbage truck fire.

Sand will also be sprayed over the water used to extinguish the fire because of below freezing temperatures that could cause icy conditions on the roadway, according to police.
