Hockey Game Benefits Fallen Wantagh Officer

With support of the New York Islanders Nassau police hit the Coliseum ice for benefit game to raise money for Michael Califano's family.

The New York Islanders paid tribute to fallen Nassau County Police Officer Michael J. Califano during a recent home game against the New Jersey Devils. 

Prior to the NHL game the Nassau County PBA hockey team took to the ice against the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department in a tribute to Califano, who was a 12-year veteran of the Nassau County Police Department before tragically losing his life last month. Califano, 44, of Wantagh was while in his patrol car during a routine traffic stop on the Long Island Expressway on Feb. 4 and was later pronounced dead at Nassau University Medical Center.

A portion of the proceeds and ticket sales that were raised from the March 6 game between the Islanders and Devils were donated to the .
