A religious statue outside the Bellmore Knights of Columbus has been vandalized for the third time in recent years.

Members of the organization discovered the statue of Our Blessed Mother knocked over and its head broken off on Wednesday morning.

Officials believed the vandalism happened between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Knights of Columbus members discovered the vandalism at around 10 a.m. Wednesday and notified police.

The statue, which sits on the front corner of the Knights of Columbus property, has been trashed several times in the past few years. In Sept. 2010, vandals damaged a St. Anthony statue and smashed a window at the post, causing more than $2,500 in damage. In July 2013, the Our Blessed Mother statue was again broken by an unknown subject.

Knights of Columbus members said they would pursue legal action against the vandals responsible for the latest incident. Officials asked anyone with information about the vandalism to call the Seventh Precinct (516) 573-6700 and refer to police report 2014CR317041.

Why do people vandalize these religious icons? It happens to many faiths but Catholics seem to be fair game around the world, yet little attention is given.

whoever did this should be punished to the extent not only paying for the damage but making them go to church and do some sort of community service. All churchs should be aware now because it could happen again. My guess is a bunch of teenagers had nothing better to do.

sounds like a person with a warped mind and has no respect for anything or anyone, if caught he or she should wear a sign on his back displaying what he or she has done, and pay for the repairs.

That is a shame you think if this was done three times already you would put up some cameras to catch these dirtbags already. I hope you rot in Hell for this..our Blessed Mother how could you do that how sad that people have nothing better to do with there time..
