Man Crashes Into Tree on Wantagh State Parkway

Accident victim transported to Nassau University Medical Center,

A male motorist went off the road and crashed into a tree on the southbound Wantagh State Parkway just before the Sunrise Highway exit early Saturday evening.

The man, who was driving a 1972 Chevy Impala, was trapped in his vehicle following the accident that occurred just after 6 p.m., according to Wantagh Fire Chief Jeff Lindgren. Emergency service workers responded to the scene and were able to cut off a door in the vehicle and the man was transported by the to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, Chief Lindgren said.

The condition of the man is unknown but he was breathing when firefighters transported him to the hospital, according to Lindgren. The tree that the man’s vehicle struck was uprooted.

“He hit the tree very hard,” said Lindgren.

New York State police responded to the scene of the crash for an accident investigation. Police did not provide information on what might have caused the crash.
