Police Blotter: August 31-Sept. 6

Incident reports in Wantagh and Seaford from the Seventh Precinct.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's Seventh Precinct incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

  • A woman reported being the victim of a criminal mischief act at the corner of Sunrise Highway and Washington Avenue, Seaford on Sept. 5. After the woman honked her horn at an unknown male driving a 2001 Cadillac, the driver parked his vehicle in front of her in a traffic lane, according to police. He then exited and approached her vehicle screaming and spitting and proceeded to kick the driver side door and rear door, which denting her 2008 Honda CRV, according to police. The woman was able to maneuver her vehicle around his parked car and leave scene. Nassau County 7th Squad detectives are investigating the incident.
  • A man described as "the Briefcase Bandit" made an appearance at the CVS on 3941 Merrick Road, Wantagh on August 29, according to police. Police said a manager at the CVS reported an unknown male wearing long Khaki pants and a white button front shirt entered the store with a briefcase in a shopping cart.  He exited the store and then re-entered, again placing the briefcase in a shopping cart.  The man then proceeded to leave the store after hearing the manager's page for assistance and entered a gray 2001 Honda Accord with New York license plates. Police said the man has been observed by CVS loss prevention in other locations and is known to them as the "Briefcase Bandit"
  •  On Sept. 1 Susan Clarke-Cmaylo, 55, of Copiague Harbor was arrested at the corner of Merrick Road and Southard Avenue in Seaford and charged with driving while intoxicated.
  • On Sept. 6 a Wantagh and Seaford man were arrested and changed with three-degree criminal mischief at the corner of on Washington Avenue and Cecilia Place. That evening a Nassau County Seventh Precinct police officer responded to a fight in the Pathmark parking lot on Merrick Road, Seaford. Witnesses told the officer that the subjects from the fight had left scene northbound on Washington Avenue. While investigating the fight at Pathmark the police officer responded to the call of another disturbance at the Massapequa Long Island Rail Road station and located three males in a silver Lexus. The vehicle had front-end damage and a flat tire, police said. The three men admitted to having been involved in the fight in the Pathmark lot and the driver stated that a male and female in a Chevy had chased him and hit his car, with the woman throwing a wrench at it causing damage, according to police. During the investigation police were advised of suspicious persons on Cecelia Place, Seaford where a witness had observed a male park a vehicle, and flee on foot.  Responding police officers located the vehicle and the driver, John Athanasopoulos, 26, Driscoll Lane, Seaford and Josette Livingston, 20, of Beverly Road, Wantagh and a positive show up was conducted. Both Athanasopoulos and Livingston were arrested and charged with third-degree criminal mischief. Anthanasopoulos was additionally charged with second-degree reckless endangerment.
  •  On August 31, Joshua Pearl, 20, of Alken Avenue, Seaford was arrested on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa and charged with third-degree grand larceny,  third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle  and seven vehicle and traffic law violations.
  • On Sept. 1 Joseph Digorga, 39, of Long Beach was arrested at the Seventh Precinct headquarters in Seaford and charged with first-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
  • On Sept. 2 a home on Bayview Avenue, Wantagh was burglarized. Police said the home was entered through the unlocked rear door. A 32-inch flat screen television and I-Pod were both taken from the home.
  • A man on Riverside Drive, Wantagh reported to police that a wallet was stolen from his unlocked 2000 GMC sometime between Tuesday night Sept. 2 and the next morning.
  • A man on Jerome Street, Seaford reported that his wallet was stolen from his unlocked vehicle sometime between Tuesday night Sept. 2 and the next morning.
  • A woman on Darby Lane in Seaford reported to police that unknown persons damaged the electric meter on the side of her home sometime between August 26 and Sept. 1.
  • A man on Allen Drive in Seaford reported that unknown white males threw flowerpots and eggs onto his 2007 Subaru and his home causing a section of siding to break on Sept. 6. The subjects fled on foot. 
  • Complainants reported that the football field shed door lock was damaged at Seamans Neck Park in Seaford on Sept. 3.
  • A complainant reported the larceny of a case containing a laptop and two passports from the counter of Cori Stationery on Sept. 6.
