Police Seek Suspect in Wantagh Attempted Bank Robbery

Authorities are looking for a black woman in her mid to late 30s.

Nassau County Police are searching for a woman who attempted to rob the TD Bank in Wantagh early Sunday afternoon.

Detectives said at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, a woman entered TD Bank on 3222 Sunrise Highway in Wantagh, approached a teller and asked for cash. The teller instructed her to fill out a withdrawal slip and pressed the panic button. The woman fled on foot with no proceeds in an unknown direction.

The same TD Bank, which is located just off the Wantagh State Parkway, was also robbed in May 2011.

Police said that 35 minutes after the attempted bank robbery in Wantagh, the same woman entered TD Bank at 1600 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow and made a verbal demand for money. The teller complied and the suspect then fled into a light blue Audi A4 with Michigan plates. The cash, which contained a dye pack, was recovered in the East Meadow robbery, police said.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

The suspect is described as a black woman in her mid to late 30s. She has dark hair with red highlights, a dark complexion and was wearing a multi-colored jacket and black pants.

Anyone with information regarding either bank robberies is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800) 244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.
