Report: Police Making Progress on Ocean Parkway Serial Killer Case

Suffolk Police chief says homicide investigators are making headway in the investigation into 10 bodies found along Ocean Parkway including two near Jones Beach in Wantagh.

There is no arrest imminent in the serial murder investigation along Ocean Parkway that has included near in Wantagh but investigators are reportedly making progress, according to Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer who is slated to appear on a national news broadcast show tonight.

Dormer’s interview about the serial killer case, involving the murders of four young women who worked as Craiglist escorts, and insight on the investigation of six additional bodies found during the past six months  in the Gilgo and Jones Beach areas, is a segment on Tuesday's “48 Hours Mystery,” airing at 10 p.m. on CBS, according to a local daily news report.

Suffolk Police told Patch today they are not providing any information despite media requests on the statements reportedly Dormer gives in the hour-long interview.

“We’ll add you to the list and keep you posted if anything is released,” the police information office stated in an email.

Newsday quotes Dormer as stating, "an arrest is not imminent, but we're making progress.”

Suffolk Police and the Crime Stoppers program boosted an initial $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest to an unprecedented $25,000 in early June.

Police could not provide details today on the number of tips received since the increase.

In the interview, according to Newsday, Dormer says the missing person case of Shannan Gilbert, which led to the first body discovery, remains a mystery as she has not been identified as one of the 10 found during the investigation.
