Reward Offered for Stolen Tackapausha Sculpture

Spider display in front of Seaford museum was stolen on June 9.

A community effort is underway to retrieve a Nouveau Spider Sculpture that was stolen from the in Seaford on June 9.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the return of the spider sculpture, which was on display in the front of the museum when it on April 22 after being closed for nearly two years for renovations. A flyer about the reward has been placed around the Seaford community including at , which provides a phone number of 516-277-2287 to call with any information on the sculpture’s disappearance. A message left by Patch at that number was not returned.

A spokeswoman at the Tackapausha Museum said the sculpture was being rented out as an exhibit and is not owned by Nassau County, which operates the wildlife center on 2225 Washington Ave. She said the legs of the sculpture have been located but the body is still missing.

News of the sculpture’s disappearance was upsetting to Seaford resident Laura Moakley, who loves taking her 13-month old daughter to see the exhibit.

“The art Nouveau Spider Sculpture was becoming a fun stop before and after we would go into the  museum,” Moakley said. “When I found out it was stolen, literally I just wanted to help out as much as possible to get the word out and to get this sculpture back to where it belongs.”

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
