Road, Parking Restrictions Announced for Funeral of Slain ATF Agent

Jackson Avenue between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road in Seaford to be closed down Friday starting at 9 a.m.

The Nassau County Police Department has announced street closures for Friday morning’s of slain ATF agent John Capano taking place at in Seaford.

Jackson Avenue between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road will be closed off at 9 a.m. until the completion of Capano’s funeral procession. Starting at 10 a.m., Washington Avenue and Seamans Neck Road will be subject to periodic closures from Waverly Avenue to Sunrise Highway. Waverly Avenue from Seaman’s Neck Road to Washington Avenue will also be subject to closure.

Residential streets in the immediate vicinity of St. William the Abbott Church will be shut down during the funeral, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. No parking will be permitted on Jackson Avenue starting at midnight until the end of Friday’s funeral procession.

, located across the street from the funeral service, will be closed on Friday. The school’s rear parking lot next to Washington Avenue is being utilized for media parking.

Capano of Massapequa, an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), was shot and in the line of duty while trying to stop an of in Seaford on New Year’s Eve. The was in his 24th year as an ATF agent and assigned to the . He was a member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association and the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI) who had had taught U.S. military and local forces in Afghanistan and Iraq how to investigate blasts.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
