Seaford Fire Department Installs New Chief

Robert Podesta takes over position for second time.

The recently installed Robert Podesta as its new chief. It is the second time Podesta has served in this position.

Podesta was sworn in as chief of the Seaford Fire Department on April 16 at an installation dinner held at the Milleridge Cottage in Jericho. Podesta replaces Patrick McIntyre.

Podesta has been involved with the Seaford Fire Department since the late 1970’s, when he served in its junior’s program. On Sept. 3, 1979 he became one of the youngest members in the department’s history to be elected as 2nd assistant chief. Podesta was first sworn in as Seaford Fire Chief in April of 1991 and was the youngest person to ever reach this distinction.

After completing his first term of chief, Podesta served seven years a commissioner with the Seaford Fire District. In 2005 Podesta decided to enter back into the ranks as a Seaford Fire Department officer.
