St. William the Abbot School and St. Williams the Abbot Church were placed on lockdown early Friday afternoon while police searched the area for a male suspect on the loose wanted in connection for a robbery of a nearby gas station.
A Nassau County Police Department spokeswoman said the lockdown was instituted at both the school at 2001 Jackson Ave. and church across the street as a precaution while they searched for the suspect. She said the robbery occurred at a gas station on Sunrise Highway around 1 p.m. near both the school and church, but did not provide details of the incident or a description of what the suspect looked like.
Nassau County Police cars are on scene in front of both the school and church during their search for the suspect. A police helicopter was also circling the area.
A spokeswoman at St. William the Abbot School said just after 2 p.m. that the lockdown was still in place and that police would be escorting students to their buses for dismissal. The lockdown was lifted a short time later at both the shool and church.
Anyone know if they caught the suspect(s)??
