Serious Accident on Sunrise Highway Sends Two to Hospital

A car allegedly swerved across the median and crashed into a Suburban.

A serious auto accident occurred on Sunrise Highway in Wantagh early Saturday evening, according to police.

The Seventh Squad reported that Brian Haab, 18, of Baldwin was driving a 1996 Ford Taurus westbound on Sunrise Highway when he swerved across the median into the eastbound lanes.

According to detectives, the Taurus was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound 2007 Dodge Suburban operated by Matthew Pephinski, 55, of Lindenhurst.

Both victims were transported to Nassau University Medical Center by  ambulance for treatment of their injuries. Haab was admitted in critical condition.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and there appears to be no criminality at this time.
