Southern State Parkway Crash Victim Fighting for Her Life

Family of Taquanna Richardson trying to raise funds to defray medical costs after serious car accident in Wantagh has left her in coma.

A 22-year old woman into a tree on the Southern State Parkway in Wantagh last month is still fighting for her life and an effort is underway to help pay for increased medical bills she is incurring.

Taquanna Richardson of Jamaica, Queens was in route to her job at Cablevision in Bethpage on July 24 when while driving on the eastbound Southern State Parkway around exit 28 (Wantagh Avenue), she lost control of her vehicle and plowed into a tree sideways. Richardson was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow with what police described as "life-threatening" injuries.

Richardson’s father, Sydney Hart, said his daughter remains in a coma but is breathing on her own. He is hopeful that she will soon be able to open her eyes.

Hart said Richard’s serious car accident has caused massive medical bills that are exceeding what her insurance will cover. He has launched a fundraising effort in hopes of raising enough money to pay some of her medical expenses that her insurance is unable to cover.

Donations for Richardson can be mailed to Jocella Haughton, P.O. Box 210741, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11221. A medical rust cost has also been set up for her at Chase Bank with account number 2902107970 and routing number 021000021. Hart said he hopes to raise at least $20,000.

Hart, who resides in Orlando, Fla. but has been on Long Island for much of the last month since his daughter’s accident, said he has been touched by the support he and his family have received since July 24. He said some of his daughter’s close friends have stayed by her bedside day and night.

“She is a great person," said Hart of his daughter. “It’s an unfortunate accident that happened but we have to come together and keep praying.”
