Teen Charged With Igniting Firework at Wantagh School Playground

Fifteen-year old male surrenders to detectives Thursday and is arrested for role in causing a fire at a Wantagh Elementary School playground last summer by setting off a firework.

A 15-year old male from Wantagh was arrested Thursday and charged with setting off a firework at a Wantagh Elementary School playground last summer.

According to Nassau County Arson/Bomb Squad detectives, the male juvenile set off a firework in the rear of Wantagh Elementary School on July 23 at 1:20 p.m. The firework landed on the playground igniting the play set. The teen defendant surrendered on Thursday to detectives at the Seventh Precinct in Seaford.

The juvenile is charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and is scheduled to appear in Family Court on March 20.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
