Traffic Stop Yields Arrest of Burglary Suspect

Two Seaford men were arrested on drug possession, traffic violation and other charges after a traffic stop in Massapequa early Tuesday morning. 

One of them, Michael Myers, 20, was also found in possession of stolen property from a recent burglary, Nassau County detectives reported.

Myers was apprehended when he was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by police officers for a traffic infraction. The officers reportedly smelled an odor of marijuana in the vehicle and the occupants were removed from the vehicle. The defendant was allegedly in possession of a switchblade knife, three Oxycodone pills and the proceeds from a residential burglary that he committed on Merrick Road on Aug. 11 at 4 a.m.

Myers was arrested for Burglary 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.  

Also arrested was the driver of the vehicle, James Ammirata, 21, of Seaford. He was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operate Motor Vehicle by an Unlicensed Driver and Unsafe Turn/Failure to Signal.

The defendants will be arraigned on Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
